Depuis un peu
plus de quatre ans, the_dark_end_of_the_street est devenu un lieu incontournable
pour les amateurs francophones de musique soul.
Information sur les sorties de disques ou les concerts, échos et critiques,
commentaires et polémiques ont leur place, dans un esprit de partage des
connaissances et de respect des goûts de chacun. Nous abordons aussi la place de
la soul en dehors de la musique (polars, films…et le contexte socioculturel.
La musique soul est ici envisagée largement : Hank Ballard, Otis Redding, Jill
Scott, Percy Sledge, Ben E. King, Solomon Burke, James Brown, Al Green,
Parliament-Funkadelic, Isaac Hayes, les Temptations sont par exemple dans le
sujet, mais nous nous intéressons particulièrement à des figures moins connues
du grand public : Bettye LaVette, OV Wright, Millie Jackson, Mavis Staples,
Howard Tate, J Blackfoot, Marvin Sease, Bobby Rush, James Carr, Eddie Hinton,
Mighty Sam McClain, Otis Clay et bien d’autres…
Afin de respecter la spécificité de la liste, le gospel, le rap, le blues, le
disco ne sont pas dans le sujet, sauf dans la mesure où ils concernent des
artistes essentiellement soul (par exemple les enregistrements gospel d'Aretha
Franklin ou le retour au blues de Syl Johnson).

to the early 70's.We won't tolerate any flaming and you must stay on topic.
Please stay away from the fanzine-types of posts that refer to the obvious
popularity of the Otis's & Aretha's. We want this list to be a serious
behind-the-scenes look at southern soul with an emphasis on the Stax/Hi scene in
Memphis & the Muscle Shoals scene in Alabama.
